Just Energy for All Seed Funding Application 2025
Goal of United Women in Faith Grant Support
United Women in Faith groups are leading impactful climate justice work across the country. To support that work and to advance a just energy transition, we have made funding available through our annual seed grant effort. The support from seed grants is available to fund a wide range of projects, including the installation of renewable energy technology, advocacy and educational campaigns, training community groups, and participation in events.
The goal is to advance United Women in Faith’s efforts to promote just energy for all by providing small-scale grants to augment existing campaigns and/or develop new campaigns.
UWFaith invites applications from UWFaith-led initiatives and local environmental justice groups by November 10, 2025. We strongly encourage applications from coalitions and partnerships between UWFaith and EJ groups.
Applicants can expect to hear from UWFaith about the status of their application within 1-1.5 months after the application closing date. Funds will be accessible to successful applicants by December 2025.
About the Just Energy for All Campaign
Our Just Energy for All Campaign is hosted by United Women in Faith’s Office of Economic and Environmental Justice and works for energy that is cleaner and more just for all of God’s people and creation. This means advocating for 100% renewable energy (RE) – such as solar, wind, small-scale hydro and geothermal – that is centered on justice and equity. You can find webinars and resources on our JE4A campaign page as well as in this supportive resource document.
Rolling Deadline
The first round of application review will be Monday, November 10, 2025, and the second deadline is based on available funding.
Types of Projects to be Funded
We will consider applications for stand-alone UWFaith-led work and individual environmental justice groups. However, we strongly encourage collaborative campaign work with United Women in Faith groups acting in coalition with other organizations and groups to achieve a shared goal. While we will prioritize domestic applications, we will also consider international applications.
Projects that are values-aligned, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) led and/or involved in decision making, and those that include educational or advocacy components. Projects may also lead to a self-sustaining model, such as small enterprises (non-profit but community empowering), which UWFaith will prioritize.
A priority in this Seed Funding process is to fund projects aligned with our Just Energy for All campaign. This priority includes working toward a Just Transition away from an extractive economy and fossil fuels and into a living economy and a renewably and justly powered energy system. Successful projects should also integrate the Jemez Principles and the Principles of Environmental Justice, which are central to the values of UWFaith’s Just Energy for All work.
Grant Application Prioritization
UWFaith’s invitation for seed grant applicants aims to promote just energy for all by providing small-scale grants that will augment existing campaigns or support the development of new ones.
UWFaith (staff/members/partners) will thoroughly review all applications and will score each grant proposal by analyzing the clarity of each project’s proposal and project effectiveness, identifying if your proposal clearly outlines anticipated project impact and integrates equity components, and your proposal’s overall alignment with JE4A goals and priorities.
To further evaluate each proposal’s fit for this specific funding opportunity, there are three main categories within which United Women in Faith will prioritize:
1.) Campaign activities and/or goals include the 2025 JE4A priority project areas
2.) Alignment with the main JE4A criteria in applications
3.) Amount requested and budget justification
1) 2025 Priority JE4A Project Areas
In 2025, our goal is to fund campaigns that align with project areas that promote JE4A campaign goals: Reduce Carbon Emissions through Sustainable Transportation, Promote Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Support Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation and Divestment, Improve Air Quality and Climate Health Issues, and Educate and Advocate for a Just Energy Transition. Read more on the priority areas.
2) Alignment with JE4A Main Criteria
To meet the objective of advancing a just energy transition, United Women in Faith will prioritize proposals that align with the values, scope, and goals of JE4A.
Just Energy for All (JE4A) includes working toward a Just Transition away from an extractive economy and fossil fuels, and into a living economy and renewably and justly powered energy system, rooted in the Jemez Principles and the Principles of Environmental Justice.
Campaign proposals are aligned with advancing just energy for all and are clearly supportive of JE4A goals. Read the full criteria.
3) Amount Requested and Budget Justification
United Women in Faith will give priority to funding requests of $100 – $3,000. We invite each applicant to carefully consider the amount of funding required and to provide detailed documentation of the budget and rationale in their application. Funding is limited, so please budget responsibly and request only the amount that you will need. UWFaith may allocate the funds for the purchase of materials, services, participation in impact events, direct work, or grant writing purposes.
