General Conference

Member nominee: Judy McGoogan

Members of United Women in Faith put love into action every day to inspire, influence, and impact their churches and communities. Many of our members live out their faith by serving as leaders in The United Methodist Church. This year, 11 annual conferences are electing their delegates to General Conference, and members of United Women in Faith are stepping up to the call.

Judith McGoogan is a member of United Women in Faith at Broomfield United Methodist Church in Broomfield, Colorado, where serving as her circle’s social justice chair led her to deeper involvement in justice ministries that continue to shape her faith journey.

Judy is a Stephen Minister and Stephen Leader in Illinois and Colorado. She helped organize the Mountain Sky Conference Creation Justice Task Force and has worked across the conference on creation care, legislative action, energy stewardship, grant development, and connecting congregations with resources that help them serve their communities.

She is a nominee for General Conference delegate in the Mountain Sky Conference.

What do you like most about being a member of United Women in Faith?

What I value most about United Women in Faith is its commitment to putting faith into action. It brings together women who care deeply about justice, compassion, and service and who are willing to work together to make a meaningful difference in the world. I appreciate its long tradition of education, advocacy, mission, and empowering women to lead. I treasure the friendships, encouragement, and sense of purpose I have found through United Women in Faith.

Why are you running for General Conference delegate?

I am running because I believe the church needs people who can listen deeply, build bridges, and help turn vision into action. During my career as a systems architect at Bell Labs, I worked with diverse teams to develop international technology standards and solve complex problems. Those experiences taught me the value of collaboration, respectful dialogue, and finding common ground.

As a delegate, I would bring those same skills to the work of the church. I believe this is a time when our denomination needs thoughtful leadership that can honor different perspectives while helping us move forward together in faithful and effective ministry.

What are your hopes for the church?

My hope is that the church will continue building Beloved Community—bringing people together across differences to serve Christ and our neighbors. I hope we will strengthen our witness for justice, deepen our commitment to caring for creation, and equip congregations to meet the needs of their communities in practical ways.

I am particularly passionate about helping the church live into a vision of “Just Energy for All”—ensuring that all people, especially those with limited resources, can benefit from energy efficiency, lower utility costs, healthier buildings, and a more sustainable future. I believe caring for creation and caring for people go hand in hand.

As a grandmother, I want to leave future generations both a vibrant church and a healthy planet. I believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to be a church that listens well, works collaboratively, and responds faithfully to the challenges and opportunities of our time.

The Mountain Sky Annual Conference meets June 11-13. Keep Judy in your prayers!
