Take Action: Say No to the Cruel Budget
“The reconciliation bill approved by the House and if approved by the Senate and the president will radically reduce the safety net that our parents need to raise their children. Currently our families are struggling to make ends meet while trying to raise healthy children. Non-profits like the Neighborhood Center in Camden and churches can never be a viable substitution for SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, TANF, or the affordable healthcare exchanges.”
—Mike Landis, executive director of the Neighborhood Center in Camden, N.J., a United Women in Faith National Mission Institution
As women of faith, we join our National Mission Institutions and communities impacted in speaking out against injustice. The proposed budget bill before the Senate turns biblical values upside down by harming millions of women, children, and youth with devastating cuts to critical social programs while prioritizing the wealthiest among us. Just a few senators can stop this, which is why your voice is needed now! Join us in virtual action and urge your senators to vote no on this cruel budget.
The proposed budget bill gifts tax cuts to the wealthiest at the expense of the most vulnerable. $793 billion cut to Medicaid would mean over 10 million people losing their health insurance. $300 billion cut to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) would mean 7 million people going hungry, including 2 million children.
This bill provides $134 billion to Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement (ICE) to expand detention facilities and devastating attacks on immigrant and refugee communities through mass deportations, raids, and unjust detentions and arrests.
Feeding the poor, caring for the sick, and helping our neighbors are moral imperatives. This cruel budget directly contradicts this call in our faith. Please contact your senator to reject the cuts in this bill and prioritize a budget that aligns with our morals.
