March/April response: Love in Action Maps
Mission Outreach
by Audrey Stanton-Smith
Mission is such a big, beautiful word! But sometimes it can be a little confusing. These “Love in Action” maps have been renamed from “Mission Maps” because they offer just a glimpse of how members’ dollars are at work around the world, supporting programs that improve life and help empower women, children, and youth.
Beyond this global glimpse of your support, the total mission of United Women in Faith includes so much more: spiritual growth; education and leadership development; social action and racial and climate justice; our Office of Deaconess and Home Missioner; mission resources; and more. Those things are a little difficult to pinpoint on a map. So, with these maps, we focus on grants and scholarships, international mission, and National Mission Institutions.
These are the places your generous financial gifts are used throughout the world now, in 2024, and in 2025. During that period, you have helped send grants to 26 countries and awarded more than $1.1 million through 350 scholarships to students from 25 countries.
You are supporting gender justice, economic empowerment, and leadership development through schools, hospitals, agricultural and microenterprise projects, grassroots organizations, and more.
Your support also goes to National Mission Institutions, community-based organizations, and social service agencies that were almost exclusively founded by women in the 19th and 20th centuries to serve marginalized communities and populations across the United States. Today, United Women in Faith remains connected to these community centers, colleges, and residences providing vital services in vulnerable communities.
NMIs empower women, care for children, support seniors, educate youth, provide housing for domestic violence survivors, and offer residences for special needs children and youth. NMIs also advocate for the women, children, youth, and families in the communities they serve.
Thank you for putting love into action and trusting United Women in Faith with your contributions. We are committed to good stewardship of this generous support. Please feel free to look more closely at the total mission impact in our annual reports, which are posted at uwfaith.org/who-we-are/financials/. You will also find a tab on that page that says, “Where the Money Goes.” Click on it and find a downloadable, easy-to-read PDF that explains where the money comes from and how it is used to support these projects and more.
