NEW YORK – As we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month this May, Sally Vonner, General Secretary and CEO of United Women in Faith, issued the following statement:

“This month and always, we are proud to celebrate our sisters and brothers who are part of the AANHPI community. I am grateful for their presence in our organization and communities.

“As we continue our fight for racial justice, we must not forget our AANHPI neighbors. In the past several years, we have seen discrimination against these communities. From attacks surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic to words of hatred in the midst of anti-immigrant rhetoric, this issue is far from resolved. We cannot leave our neighbors behind.

“Our mission of justice is for everyone, and we bear this in mind as we celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month. United Women in Faith will continue our efforts of equity and justice for AANHPI communities, addressing issues ranging from the school-to-prison pipeline to harmful stereotypes and beyond.

“Our world is better because of its diverse communities. I am overjoyed to raise the voices of AANHPI leaders and communities this May and onwards.”
