NEW YORK — With National Reading Month underway this March, United Women in Faith is uplifting the importance of equipping members for mission through their Reading Program. They released the following statement from Emily Jones, the executive for racial justice and director of the reading program:
“With so much to process in the world and everything asking us to move faster, putting a strong emphasis on reading is practically countercultural — and that’s exactly what we need. Our Reading Program gives us relevant, important works that allow us to slow down and think, and it prepares us to carry out our mission more faithfully.”
“We appreciate the reminder that National Reading Month gives us to be deliberate and make time to learn and explore. We also know that this is a year-round practice; every month and every day, we can expand our horizons and join in community over books.
“I invite all who want to grow in community, faith, and action to explore our Reading Program. Meeting over reading exposes us to new ideas, encourages us to advocate for good, and connects us with people we may not have otherwise known. Reading gives us power.”
