General Conference

Member nominee: Becky Gaar

Members of United Women in Faith put love into action every day to inspire, influence, and impact their churches and communities. Many of our members live out their faith by serving as leaders in The United Methodist Church. This year, 11 annual conferences are electing their delegates to General Conference, and members of United Women in Faith are stepping up to the call.

Meet Deaconess Becky Gaar, a member of United Women in Faith at First United Methodist Church in Pine Mountain, Georgia, where she has served as United Women in Faith president and treasurer and is currently the church’s minister of missions and senior adults. She is a Certified Lay Servant and a Certified Lay Speaker and also directs her church’s food pantry and cancer care ministries.

She is a nominee for the North Georgia Conference General and Jurisdictional Conference delegation.

What do you like most about being a member of United Women in Faith?

Being part of United Women in Faith means so much to me because I’m able to live out my faith by helping others through mission. It’s rewarding to be part of something that brings hope and support to people who need it and to know I’m a part of a legacy of women who’ve made a difference across generations.

Why are you running for General Conference delegate?

I’m running for General Conference delegate because I love The United Methodist Church and believe in its mission to make disciples and transform the world. Through my mission work, I’ve seen how important it is for the church to stay focused on serving others and living out our faith in real, practical ways. I want to help ensure that the decisions we make as a worldwide church support that kind of ministry and reflect both our convictions and our compassion. I’m committed to listening well, representing faithfully, and serving with humility.

What are your hopes for the church?

I hope we all stay connected in our love of missions and helping others. I hope that, no matter our differences, we remain united in our shared calling to serve others, that our love for mission, compassion, and helping those in need continues to connect us and guide us in everything we do.

North Georgia meets June 18-20. Keep Becky in your prayers!
