General Conference

Member nominee: Jana Jones

Members of United Women in Faith put love into action every day to inspire, influence, and impact their churches and communities. Many of our members live out their faith by serving as leaders in The United Methodist Church. This year, 11 annual conferences are electing their delegates to General Conference, and members of United Women in Faith are stepping up to the call.

Meet Jana Jones, a member of United Women in Faith at Smoky Hill United Methodist Church in Centennial, Colorado, and United Women in Faith’s national president. Jana previously served as the Reading Program Chair for the United Women in Faith Board of Directors and has been the vice president of the Western Jurisdiction United Women in Faith, the conference secretary of program resources and coordinator of education and interpretation, a district social action chair and secretary of program resources, and is currently the communications coordinator for her local United Women in Faith.

She has been the Mountain Sky Abundant Health Coordinator, a member of the General Board of Global Ministries Board of Directors, and she’s a choir member and mission team member at Smoky Hill.

She is a nominee for delegate for the 2028 United Methodist General Conference. The Mountain Sky Conference meets June 11-13, during which they will hold elections.

What do you like most about being a member of United Women in Faith?

I love being part of a sisterhood that believes that love in action is how we are called to follow Christ. It is in building relationships with each other, and using our many, varied strengths that we, as the body of Christ can be a powerful force for good. I love my United Women in Faith sisters!

Why are you running for General Conference delegate?

Being part of United Women in Faith has offered meaningful leadership opportunities and the chance to speak with United Methodist women from all over the country. As national president, I am humbled to represent hundreds of thousands of women, and have been in conversation with fellow general agency presidents and with general secretaries. It has given me a wide view of many voices, perspectives, hopes and dreams for the future of The United Methodist Church. I feel I am being called to be part of this important, pivotal time in the church and add my voice to represent both my conference and United Women in Faith.

What are your hopes for the church?

We have many hard decisions before us, but this is a time of great opportunity as we rethink the future of The United Methodist Church. I dream of a church that can be collaborative in discovering a way to move forward together in being the church that Christ calls us to be. May we grant voice and power to those who have been left out or shut out. May our physical and spiritual doors be opened wide to include ALL, and may we truly love like Jesus.

Keep Jana in your prayers, and don’t miss her profile from the November/December 2024 issue of response magazine, right after she was elected board president.
