NEW YORK — As we celebrate Juneteenth, Sally Vonner, General Secretary and CEO of United Women in Faith, issued the following statement:

“Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect and resolve. We reflect on the progress made and resolve to continue the fight for freedom in all its forms. Despite federal and state efforts to undermine progress, we channel the determination of those who came before us. We are not deterred but instead committed to the continuation of work for freedom and justice for all.

“Today and every day, we must reflect on the hardships we’ve overcome and celebrate the hope and power we hold. Now is a time to lift our voices and claim our freedom at every opportunity. We are steadfast in our work for racial justice and grounded in faith to endeavor for a world in which everyone lives in freedom, peace, and joy.”
